SSD shopping, but my board is Sata 2.
I am looking in to getting an SSD for my EVGA X58 SLI mother board. My goal is getting the best 200GB SSD for my money, with a budget ofabout 200-ish dollars. My problem is that my listed mother board onlysupports sata 2. My first set of concerns; Sata 2 vs 3. I could do a sata 3 controller card with a sata 3 SSD. That wouldprobably cost the most but it would probably simplify the equation. Ifthe jump in performance is really drastic, then i might bump up mybudget. Or, should i just buy the best sata 2 SSD? Is there an advantageoustrade off in terms of reliability and larger sizes for lower prices ifi just buy Sata 2? Or is it like ram in that its older, slower andmore expensive to stick with sata 2? Lastly, I could toss a sata 3 SSD on this board and treat it like asata 2 SSD, sure, but is that wasting money? I really have no sense ofwhat an optimal price to performance ratio should be with SSDs rightnow. Second, and what ever you concluded after my first question willmatter here; whats the best 200 gig (or larger) SSD? Newegg seems toagree with my budget here, But It seems like performance andreliability are really at odds at this price range. Is there a magicSSD out there that is really reliable and really fast for that priceand size?I guess both my questions boil down to this: If your computer had thesame specs as mine, what SSD would you put in it for $200?Intel Core i7-920 Bloomfield 2.66GHz LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core ProcessorCORSAIR DOMINATOR 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC312800) Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TR3X6G1600C8DCORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V v2.2 SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7EVGA E758-A1 3-Way SLI (x16/x16/x8) LGA 1366 Intel X58 Part# 132-BL-E758-A1EVGA SuperClocked 012-P3-1572-AR GeForce GTX 570 (Fermi) 1280MB320-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP2 (two) x 1TB Western digital black edition hard drives1 (one) x 2TB Western digital Green hard drive.
